Start-up and Commissioning

Two technicians discussing a start-up/commission projectPre-commissioning starts when facility systems achieve mechanical completion, and our team integrates the process into a project’s critical path schedule.

Often pre-commissioning activities overlap with other construction activities, so we also work to maintain system boundaries and use effective turnover protocols. This includes comprehensive lock-out/tag-out procedures, which are essential as electrical equipment and circuits become energized and equipment rotation inspections commence.

Ardent has developed proprietary system turnover protocols, databases, and work order progress management tools that define, punch-list, and manage inspection and pre-commissioning efforts.

Our experienced instrument and field process techs can inspect, measure, and track systems completion progress then provide detailed reporting when it’s achieved.

Our pre-commissioning process checks for the following:

  • Design conformance
  • Mechanical piping completion
  • Electrical code compliance
  • Instrumentation installation
  • Process tubing adequacy
  • Equipment run-in
  • Programmable logic controllers and distributed control systems
  • Rotation inspections for process equipment

Efficient, Effective Commissioning and Startup

Commissioning and start up is one of the last pieces of a project, which means it inherits any lost time or schedule flow from earlier parts of construction.  Our professional team and proprietary processes help us increase efficiency and bring projects to successful completion.

During commissioning, process fluids are introduced to system equipment and multiple function and process performance checks are conducted. Startup only occurs when stable process conditions have been established. At this point, systems are ready for manufacturing and sale to commence.
